Pheasant Hunting Brings Friends Together In South Dakota
South Dakota Pheasant Season: Wet Boots, Big Smiles, and Plenty of Birds
This past weekend, I finally got the chance to get out and do a little pheasant hunting. It’s a trip my crew and I have made for years down in the Armour–Wagner area. We missed it last season, but this year, we decided it was time to hit the road and make it happen again.
My wife and I drove through some steady rain on the way down, and I’ll admit—we were thinking it might be a long, soggy day. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right? Once we got out in the field, the showers let up, the birds started flying, and so did the laughter.
We had a group of about 20 hunters this year, and let’s just say there was plenty of shooting (and even some hitting!). By the end of the day, we had a good haul, a few tired legs, and big smiles all around.
And of course, no South Dakota hunt is complete without great food, great friends, and that unmistakable cool fall breeze. That’s what makes pheasant season special—it’s not just about the birds, it’s about the people you share it with.
If you’re heading out this fall, whether you’re a local or coming in from out of state, we hope you have a safe, fun, and successful hunt. There are plenty of birds, plenty of laughs, and plenty of memories waiting for you right here in South Dakota.
So grab your blaze orange, load up the dog, and get ready for another unforgettable pheasant season!
Thanks to Dan, Jonna, Rich, Jared and Brady and the entire crew! It was great to get caught up with friends we hadn't seen in a while! Oh, and the beans are already out and they have a nice corn crop their working on getting out of the field. Beautiful country!
By the way, from what I've heard, bird numbers are up and hunters around the state of South Dakota are enjoying the season! Get out and get after it!
