The Little Bar That Could — And Still Might

Years ago, I road-tripped down to Gross, Nebraska, to broadcast live from “The Little Bar That Could.” And let me tell you — that day was one for the books.

We turned that place over three times in one afternoon. Three times! Each time it filled up, the grill fired back up, and the coolers got a little lighter. Mary was an absolute rock star on the grill, and Corey and Mike kept the food and drinks rolling like a well-oiled machine. It was small-town magic — and honestly, flat-out epic.

I love a good story. But I really love a good small-town story. And Gross, Nebraska? Checks every single box.

You’ve got to hit a gravel road to get there — which already makes it special. And when you finally roll into town, there’s really only one thing waiting for you: the NEBRASK-INN Warm welcomes. Warm hearts. And the kind of small-town hospitality you just can’t fake.

But here’s where the story takes a turn. I saw a post from Mary on the NEBRASK-IN's Facebook page — they’re looking to sell.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m happy for Mary, Mike, Cory, and the crew. They’ve earned a break and deserve to catch their breath. But still… it hits a little hard.

All across America, there are places like the Nebraska Inn — little gems that survive on grit, laughter, and good food. They become legends, gathering spots, and conversation starters. And then one day, they close — or, in this case, start searching for a new love.

Because that’s really what it feels like. The Nebraska Inn isn’t just for sale — she’s looking for someone to fall in love with her, just like the locals have for decades.

So, what do you get if you buy her? A slice of small-town heaven. A loyal crew of regulars. A cozy bar that doubles as a living museum. You can smell the burgers sizzling as you walk to the restroom — which, by the way, has an old hook-and-eye lock that’s been worn smooth by time and stories.

Mary says the price is right. You can call or message her through the Nebraska Inn Facebook page.

Who knows who’ll step up — maybe someone from California ready for a reset, someone from Maryland chasing a dream, or maybe just a local from Wagner or Marty, South Dakota, looking to take this beauty for a spin.

Whoever it is, if they love it half as much as the folks in Gross do, the Nebraska Inn will be just fine.

Editors note: I left off the World Famous Ceiling they have in The Nebrask Inn. Share this story with your friends who may or may not have a dollar tacked to the ceiling and leave the in comments how you qualify to 'get that honor.'

And thanks for sharing this with your Facebook friends and family. As always, if you have something 'kind of unique' or 'kind of special' in your town or neighborhood, let me know. I'd love to spread the word. And, Daddy still needs new shoes too! jdcollins@kikn.com
