Sioux Falls’ Favorite Love Songs

Love songs are deeply personal for so many reasons. They connect you to emotions, your own and other people's in a way nothing else can. They remind you of the love you have, the love you lost, perhaps the love you're still looking for. You might even be transported back in time, to high school, college, your wedding day or some other equally important event, just by hearing the strains of "your" song.

Music, for that matter is extraordinarily personal for a lot of people. Our taste in music is acutely reflective of who we are as human beings. Our preferences in music, informs others in our lives about aspects of our personal biography. The more eclectic your taste, the broader your range of interests and experiences.

Or maybe that's just me. I was raised by two people who were very cosmopolitan, well-educated, highly intellectual, heavy on life experiences, passionately flawed and in love with music - all kinds of music. Broadway show tunes, opera, big band, honky-tonk piano, jazz, polka, country, popular, dance, Latin, Irish, and Italian music all made appearances in our home.

Rock music was something my parents just didn't understand or like. This was the one genre we parted ways on, but other than that, to this day, I still love just about every kind of music. And a good love song with profoundly complex, meaningful lyrics and a beautiful melody? Breathtaking!
