If you're a fan of the Red Willow Band you're going to want to mark Saturday July 29 on your calendar. The band is performing that day at Strawbale Winery for the fifth annual Folk Off & Rib Challenge.

Folk Off & Rib Challenge is a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire and for the Friends of Traditional Music. The event features a local’s only rib and music competition.

Scheduled to compete in this year’s Rib Challenge are defending champs Big Rig BBQ, Squealer’s Smoke ShackHeck’s Dakota Style BBQ, Big J’s Roadhouse and Tim’s Grillin’.

Last year’s event sold out almost every rib vendor with over 2,100 in attendance. And if you arrive early enough you can help judge ribs.

The rib competition runs from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, and the music competition will run from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM with the Red Willow Band capping off the evening.

This year’s music competition will feature approximately 14 musical groups competing for a spot as an opener at the Sioux River Folk Fest.

Local breweries are also scheduled to participate so outside food and beverages are not allowed. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Also, no pets are allowed.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the event. They can be purchased at Strawbale Winery or on BrownPaperTickets.com. Contact Strawbale Winery at (605) 543-5071 for more information.
