Shania Twain's New Series 'Real Country' Announces Premiere Date

Real Country, an upcoming country music singing competition executive produced by and featuring Shania Twain, is ready to find its next Nashville star—and the series now has a premiere date, as well as a slate of celebrity guests who will be spicing up the program.

The eight-episode series will debut on USA Network Nov. 13 at 10PM ET—and in addition to its A-list judges Twain, Jake Owen and Travis Tritt, it will additionally feature guest appearances from Trace Adkins, Wynonna Judd, Big & Rich and a special appearance by the legendary Willie Nelson.

The series will put Twain, Owen and Tritt to work judging the merits of up-and-coming solo artists, duos and groups all competing to show their prowess performing in a variety of country music-based genres.

Each week will spotlight one of the aforementioned special guests alongside the judging panel (more are set to be announced soon), until things wind down and a winner is picked in the grand finale.

The overall general concept of the show is nothing new, of course, but is unique in its laser-focus on country music talent. The last such program was Nashville Star, which ran from 2003-2008 and also on the USA Network for its first five seasons; that program boasted such illustrious alumni as Miranda Lambert, Chris Young and Kacey Musgraves.

Country music is well represented on other popular all-genre reality singing competitions. American Idol, which previously featured Keith Urban, now has Luke Bryan as a judge, and Blake Shelton is a longtime coach on The Voice. Both shows have a variety of prominent winners and runners-up in the country genre, with Idol's Carrie Underwood the biggest standout.
