There wasn't going to be a racing season at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa this season. An announcement had been posted just days before the season was to start blaming rising costs. But a longtime driver and longer-time fan of the speedway got sponsors together, got all the safety pieces in place and Friday night (June 6), the nearly 50 year old track opened it's doors for the season to better than anticipated results.

They had been hoping for about 80 cars and 1000 fans. Instead, they got 110 cars and about 1300 people in the stands!

The next races at Rapid Speedway are this Friday (June 13)
