Finally a little moisture! I know many of you are hoping for a decent rain tonight and maybe have a gauge in place to catch some liquid sunshine!

You might remember a story from last summer about a rain gauge that I received for my birthday. It was a welcome gift. That rain gauge did a good job keeping me up to date on how much rain we picked up.

However, I made a mistake and left the glass tube in the gauge over the winter. Now it fared pretty well, until one of those cold days in February when it finally cracked and broke.

Turns out Dan had another tube that I could use as a replacement. When he set me up with it he offered good advice. He said,

We just turn the tube upside down and leave it in the gauge over the winter during the winter. We usually do it around Labor Day and then turn it back around to catch the precipitation once the weather warms up for good. That way, we know where the tube is and if it doesn't get wet it usually wont freeze up and break.

If you have a rain gauge in the back yard, give it a try. And I'll try to remind you to turn it upside down around Labor Day.

By the way, it looked like we had about 12 hundredths as of 8:30 AM Wednesday morning.
