Progress Made for Traffic on 69th Street in Sioux Falls
Switch over day has arrived for 69th Street as this major project hurtles toward completion. The entire scope of the upgrade will be entirely complete next year.
About one mile of new pavement is open to traffic starting on the west side at Landau Circle to Mustang Avenue on the east end. From Mustang Avenue to Minnesota Avenue, some work is yet to be completed. The above image is from the early days on the west end near Landau Circle.
Contrast that to three months later as new pavement is prepared for the transition. It's wider than before and will fit nicely compared to the shift that was in place before where cars would have to drift to the right.
As traffic approaches Western Avenue on 69th Street, notice the concrete surface in place and soon to be dual left turn lanes. All the businesses in proximity of this intersection will be craving that fall day when the orange has abated.
A look back to the west shows where the concrete and asphalt meet as the south side of the street will get its future treatment.
The full scope of the project cannot be explained in one image. Too many hills and the distance preclude that notion. Off in the distance is Western Avenue about two-thirds of a mile west. About 150 yards to the west is where traffic will be allowed on the new surface.
Looking toward Minnesota Avenue you can get the indication that a lot of work remains on this portion of road. November can't come soon enough for traffic access with full completion slated for spring of 2018.
