This little piggy was on his way to market, this little little piggy fell off the truck and is now looking for a home.

That's exactly what happened recently along I-90 just miles from the John Morrell and Company meat processing facility.

A 250 pound pig named Wally took a header off a John Morrell transport truck along I-90 a little over a week ago and survived. I've always heard that pigs are considered to be intelligent animals, I guess it's true because this little piggy just saved his own life.

KDLT News is reporting that Wally did get a nasty case of road rash, but outside of that, he ended up being alright.

The Sioux Falls Humane Society was notified about the accident and ended up saving Wally's bacon from the roadside.

According to Jordan Utech, a Humane Officer at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, "We kind of had to use a catch-pole.  We normally use them for dogs.  He was little, and it was pretty wild out there on the interstate.  You can tell he hasn’t had a lot of human interaction.  So it took probably over an hour or so to finally get him.  But we eventually did, we got a catch-pole around him and loaded him onto a trailer.”

If you're wondering, this story does have a happy ending. After hanging on to Wally for a few days, the Sioux Falls Humane Society told KDLT News that no one locally ever ended up claiming him. So, on Friday (March 31) a Sioux Falls native with the “Soul Space Farm Sanctuary” in New Richmond, Wisconsin selected Wally for adoption.

Wally now has a new forever home, where he can spend the rest of his days pigging out on milk bones, and graham crackers. Supposedly those are two of his faves according to the folks at the Sioux Falls Humane Society.
