The photo shows the Queen receiving the Australian High Commissioner and his wife in the Audience Room in Buckingham Palace.

If you look into the fireplace, instead of a roaring fire, there is a double bar space heater burning red hot.  This space heater would cost around $46 in U.S. currency.  Buckingham Palace spans around 830,000 square feet.  That's a lot of space heaters!

Queen Elizabeth is known for her thriftiness, especially when she has to make cuts to the Palace's budget in the middle of an economic recession.
