Off The Tee: Tiger Swings, Speith Parties, Rory Adjusts Schedule, Olympics Field Takes Hits
It didn't count as a competitive swing, but it was notable nonetheless. Something we hadn't seen in months: Tiger Woods - in public - on the business end of a golf club.
It happened this week at Bluejack National, in Montgomery, Texas - the first course Tiger has designed in the United States. The former #1 player in the world inaugurated the course with his first public swing since back surgery last Fall.
In the edition of 'Off The Tee', I talk with Joel Harrington from 4 Deep Golf Blog about Tiger's appearance in Texas, and more about Tiger's future plans for 2016, which may include teeing it up at the U.S. Open, in June, at Oakmont
Here are some of the other topics I cover with Joel:
- Charley Hoffman's win at the PGA Tour's Texas Open. Patrick Reed finished second, which is his eighth Top Ten finish this season.
- Rory McIlroy says the pressure of trying to capture a career grand slam got to him at The Masters. Rory also announced he's skipping the WGC Firestone to play in the 100th French Open.
- Some big name players (Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel) have announced that they're skipping the Olympics in Rio this year.
- Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler led a group of PGA pros partying in the Bahamas. From the looks of the photos, a good time was had by all.
