If you keep your eyes open during your morning drive in Sioux Falls, chances are you’ll see something new, or at least mildly entertaining, each day.

Take Tuesday, for example. I was driving down South Sycamore Avenue near 57th Street when I ran into some unexpected rush-hour traffic: goose families crossing the road like they owned the place.

If you live around there, you know about that little runoff dam the city built. It’s supposed to help with heavy rain, but apparently, the geese saw it and said, “Yep, perfect spot to raise the kids.” And now, they’ve kind of taken over.

Here’s the fun part. People like to zip through that area like it’s a racetrack, especially during the school year. But heads up—these geese don’t care about your commute. I noticed a whole flock waddling from the east side of Sycamore to the west, probably heading home after their all-you-can-eat bug buffet.

Just a reminder: the city has put up duck crossing signs (which, yeah, should maybe say "goose crossing" but let’s not get picky). So this time of year, it wouldn’t hurt to ease off the gas a bit. The geese? They’re just doing what families do—living their lives. It’s their neighborhood too, you know.

Oh, and random side note, this one’s for the kids. I always see fishing down by that dam: are you actually catching anything in there, or is it just a chill hangout spot? Let me know.

Drive safe, Sioux Falls. And maybe wave to the geese next time. They might just be the most consistent traffic you'll hit all week.
