Michael Ray Travels to Miami for ‘One That Got Away’ Video
Michael Ray travels to Miami for his latest music video, "One That Got Away." The four-minute clip has the Florida native sipping a drink at a local tourist trap until the bartender makes him an offer he can't refuse.
"Real Miami. Five min. Alley door,” she writes on a napkin at the end of her shift. Alone and ready for a night out on the town, Ray joins her as she leads him into the heart of Miami for an unexpected night of fun, and plenty of surprises.
Directed by Sean Hagwell, the majority of "One That Got Away" was filmed at Shore Club South Beach and has Ray following his new friend to spots off the beaten path. She introduces him to new friends who in turn teach him how to salsa dance. All the while, the song's lyrics play out in real life.
"She's decorating my car / Soon she'll be breakin' my heart / She's too wild horses to be all mine / I'll be your beast of burden on borrowed time / She's gonna rip off any kind of label / She's into leavin' those strings untied / Keepin' it tax free, under the table / She might only be mine tonight / But that's alright, that's okay / She's gonna be one hell of a one that got away / That's alright, might hurt, but hey / She's gonna be one hell of a one that got away," he sings on the chorus.
“We wanted to treat Miami as its own character in this video because we felt that this city really had a personality and an energy of its own—reminiscent of the energy I feel on stage night after night, city after city, when we play this song live,” Ray explains in a press release. “I also wanted to get outside of my comfort zone. So, we flew down to Miami and what you see in this video was really us—experiencing all these things together; really just being in the moment.”
"One That Got Away" was penned by Josh Osborne, Jesse Frasure and Old Dominion's Matthew Ramsey and Trevor Rosen. It is the latest single off Ray's sophomore album, Amos.
Ray's real-life "wild horse" is girlfriend and fellow artist Carly Pearce. Their relationship is flourishing, and they've already gotten a thumbs-up from Pearce's parents!
