Man Dies, Rescuer Injured in Western Minnesota Grain Bin Incident
The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office says dispatched received a call regarding two people stuck in a grain bin shortly before 9:30 a.m. Emergency crews then responded to a farm northeast of Porter, MN, which is about 23 miles northwest of Marshall.
One of the people trapped in the bin, described as a 62-year-old man, had freed himself from the grain. A 27-year-old man remained stuck inside, authorities say.
Rescue teams spent about an hour draining grain from the bin before finding and removing the man. Emergency personnel began life-saving measures but the 27-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release. The 62-year-old man was evaluated at a nearby hospital. A rescue worker was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of a heat-related injury.
The names of the individuals involved in the incident are being withheld pending notifications of family members.
