Lindsay Ell Brings the Guitar Shredding to Country Jam 2016
Lindsay Ell kicked off Day 4 of Country Jam 2016 with a 30-minute set that showcased plenty of guitar shredding, singalong covers and new music. On the final day of the festival, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, fans turned up early to see the singer-songwriter/guitarist.
During her performance, Ell revealed that she's been writing a good amount as of late and shared two new songs with the audience, including "What Does You Good," a song that urges everyone to do what makes them feel good despite what others think they should be doing with their lives.
Later, she shared that she's currently single and revealed her frustration when fellow co-writers would feel sorry for her, thinking she must be unhappy.
"I believe that happy and single are words that can go together," she said as she introduced another new song, "Don't Call Me Lonely."
While songs like "By the Way" had longtime fans singing along, it was Ell's guitar shredding that had most mesmerized. Edging towards the end of the catwalk during many of her guitar solos, several fans walked up close enough to take a selfie with her and film her performance.
The standout "What" also impressed as Ell segued seamlessly into a cover of Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" and John Mayer's "Say." Much like Mayer, Ell's guitar skills were showcased throughout the entirety of her set. Combining the blues with country, her fast paced guitar solos were the highlight on every song played.
"I gotta tell you how much I look up to you for sitting in this heat," she told the audience, who showed up early afternoon to catch her set under the nearly 100 degree Colorado sun.
Closing her performance with rapid fire lyrics and equally fast-paced electric guitar on "Criminal," catching Ell's set at Country Jam was well worth the heat for country fans.
Country Jam 2016 and ends today (June 19) in Grand Junction, Colo.
