Hear Kacey Musgraves on the Brummies’ Dreamlike ‘Drive Away’
Kacey Musgraves continues on her diverging path with a new collaboration with the Brummies, the imaginative "Drive Away."
Jacob Bryant, John Davidson and Trevor Davis make up the Americana-tinged rock band the Brummies. "Drive Away" is their new single, and they knew Musgraves' ethereal vocals would add extra oomph.
“I was dialing in drum sounds on a 4-track, and this melody came to me. I wanted to explore it more, and it took on a life of its own. I had just finished reading [Elizabeth Gilbert’s] Big Magic and was very open to receiving inspiration. I was more aware of all of these little ideas floating around," Bryant tells Billboard about how he created the song for their Eternal Reach album (April 6). "Once the demo was complete, I sent it over to Kacey to see if she would like to sing on it and the rest is history."

The country star makes her presence known on the second verse, and in the chorus as she asks for an escape from the world, longing to venture somewhere far away. Fans of her new album Golden Hour will more than likely enjoy "Drive Away," as it embodies that same dreamlike quality that is weaved throughout Musgraves' studio project.
Bryant and Davidson were writers on the Band Perry's 2013 hit "Done," then formed their own group, John & Jacob. The country duo actually opened for Musgraves on her Same Trailer, Different Park Tour in 2014 before adopting Davis and Thrasher to become a four-member band and changing up their style.
Following the release of the critically-acclaimed Golden Hour, Musgraves will hit the road on her Oh What a World Tour later in 2018. It kicks off at the Melkweg Max in Amsterdam on Oct. 21. She's on Little Big Town's the Breakers Tour until May.
