The Weirdest Guinness World Record from Minnesota

There are some pretty strange and crazy world records out there. Like the longest fingernails, the most bobby pins in a beard, and the most underwear put on in a minute. This record from Minnesota, though, is something that I didn't even know COULD be a record.

I learned about this world record thanks to a video from Mental Floss where they talked about a weird Guinness world record held in each state.

This guy has locks of hair from people like Elvis, Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, Einstein, and Charles Dickens.

Florida: Most Bridesmaids to One Bride

She had 168 bridesmaids in her wedding. 168! I have to wonder if she did it just for the record, there's no way this was just because she has that many friends.

Idaho: Farthest Distance to Blow a Pea

He's got too much time on his hands. This guy in Idaho blew a pea 84 ft. 11 in. What the heck?

Weirdest Guinness World Record from Minnesota

The weirdest record from Minnesota is thanks to some PhD students at the University of Minnesota. It comes from a study that was published in April of 2016. Oh, there was a study published? Well, this must have something to do with the medical field.

Nope. Not even close.

These students, who were examining social technologies, were studying emojis.

In the study, according to Guinness, there was "a 10-point emotional scale, ranging from -5 to +5, on which volunteers participating in the study could rank a range of different emojis."

This study revealed there's one emoji that had the biggest range in how people perceived it. Half of the participants saw it as a positive emoji, the other half saw it as negative. It was the biggest gap of all of the emojis that were studied.

Because of this result, the University of Minnesota is credited with the Guinness World Record for the "Most Confusing Emoji". That emoji is this one:

How would someone even beat this world record? I guess a new, more confusing emoji would have to be created and another study would have to be done. I just can't believe that this is a record to begin with.
