Four Minnesota Homes Featured on ‘Ugliest House in America’

I might just be living under a rock but I just recently discovered this show on HGTV called 'Ugliest House in America'. And not only that, but the show has featured Minnesota a few times!

If you also aren't familiar with the show, 'Ugliest House in America' features actress and comedian Retta. She tours these houses around the US that have been deemed 'ugly'.

Then, at the end of the season, one house is named THE ugliest and the owners win a $150,000 renovation from interior designer Alison Victoria.

The 5th season is coming out on Monday, April 22nd, but in past seasons the show has visited multiple Minnesota homes.

Minnesota Homes on 'Ugliest House in America'

In Season 1, Episode 1 we're treated to two ugly Minnesota homes. One of them is a home we've talked about many times, the Poseidon House in St. Cloud. It was actually on the market before being on the show.

The thing that shocked Retta the most about the house was the insane themes throughout. There's a room that's under the sea themed, one that's jungle-themed, one of the bathrooms looks like a cave, and the gym is Mayan-themed.

Spoilers, this home didn't win the $150,000 renovation, but the owners decided to do renovations on the home anyway and now it's back on the market.

The second Minnesota house the show visited in that episode is in Blue Earth and it's a former funeral home.

The place has tons of space but some of the things in the house remind you that it was absolutely a funeral home and it's a little unsettling. You can check out Retta's tour below.

The next time Minnesota was featured was in Season 2, Episode 5. Retta toured another two Minnesota homes, the first one was in Willmar and it gives Hansel and Gretal vibes.

The biggest issue with this house is that on the inside the function of the home is terrible. There's a room that you basically can't get to, a non-functioning hot tub that you almost have to crawl to, and the tiniest stairs ever with no railing.

The other Minnesota home in that episode is in Lake Elmo. This home definitely looks a little dated but the main issue is the smell.

The home backs up to the lake but the inside is so dated with lots and lots of beige. Not only that, but the smell really sent Retta on a ride. You can watch the tour below.

The Midwest was featured in Season 3, Episode 2 and Season 4, Episode 4 but I couldn't find anything telling me if the homes were in Minnesota. I also, sadly, couldn't find the episodes on YouTube.

Like I mentioned earlier, the newest season is coming out on Monday, April 22nd, and the first episode is called 'Hideous in the Midwest', so I bet they paid another visit to the Land of 10,000 Lakes!

In the HGTV description, the homes they visited are "a bird-loving house, a house with too many kitchens and a former party pad that once housed reptiles." Sounds... interesting! Kind of like this house with a 5,000 sqft bunker...
