Shakopee, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Minnesota teenager has died from injuries he suffered after crashing a car into a tree earlier this month.

That’s according to a news release issued by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning. The now deadly crash occurred on Jan. 24. 

The crash investigation indicates the teenager, who is described as a 16-year-old boy from Shakopee, was driving north on a two-lane road in rural southern Shakopee when the car entered the southbound lane, went into a ditch and struck a tree.

Deputies who responded to the scene reported seeing first responders removing the young driver from the vehicle. He was taken to a Minneapolis hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries.

He died from those injuries in the hospital on Monday. Authorities say drug or alcohol impairment is not suspected in the fatal crash. 

The 16-year-old was buckled up and was the person in the car. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will officially identify the teen and determine his cause and manner of death, according to the news release.
