
End of an Era? Burbank’s Whimp’s Place Closing Indefinitely
Certain establishments across South Dakota have gained mythical status over the years. They are the kind of places that, whether you've been to them or not, you've certainly heard of them.
One of those is now closing its doors indefinitely.
The owners of Whimp's Place, in tiny Burbank (population 93), made the surprise announcement on Facebook yesterday (October 9):

Whimp’s Place has been serving customers for nearly 60 years.

It was opened by 'Whimp' Girard in 1967 inside a former train station, along the railroad tracks and highway that connect Elk Point and Vermillion.
