As we understand more and more about what it takes to live a happy and healthy life, a lot of us are sticking around longer than ever.

With life expectancies now at just over 77 years old (77.2) in United States, it's hard to believe that we've nearly doubled the number of birthdays we have now compared to the 1880s (40 years old).

As impressive as 77 is, it does represent a bit of a downtick in America, where pre-COVID life expectancies were just over 79 years old.

So, that's the average, but what about those places where people are living even longer?

There are two spots in the Tri-State area.

The Street is out with the top 30 places for longest life expectancy in the U.S. based on a  StorageCafe study, using data from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, a program of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.

The numbers show that in this part of the country Minnesota's Twin Cities are the best place for living a long and prosperous life.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington metro area is 16th, with an average life expectancy of 80.6 years.

A little ways down the list is Iowa's capital city Des Moines and neighboring West Des Moines.

That metro area sits at number-29 with an average life expectancy of 79.7 years.

Not surprisingly, California and Florida dominate the list of the places with the longest life expectancies, seven of the top ten overall.
