If Xcel Energy is your provider for electricity in South Dakota you've got some money coming your way.

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission recently approved a 5.85 percent rate increase for Xcel customers in the state, which is far less than the 17.9 percent rate hike that had been in effect since the beginning of 2023.

That means Xcel users in South Dakota are getting refunds on the difference, based on usage levels, along with interest.

The average refund is about $90.

Xcel Energy implemented the interim rate refund on July 18. All credits were posted to customer accounts by July 19.

Existing customers will see the refund in the form of a bill credit posted to their accounts. Customers who are no longer with Xcel will receive a check in the mail if the refund amount is $3.00 or more.
