If you use North Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls regularly, you're going to need to come up with a solid Plan B in the not-so-distant future.

The area is about to be impacted by overlapping projects which will require some lane closures and even a complete shutdown at one point.

It all starts on April 22 when the rail crossing on Minnesota Avenue will replaced by Burlington Northern Santa Fe. During that time, Minnesota Avenue south of Algonquin Street will be closed for about one week.

During the closure, traffic will be rerouted through the industrial area via Blackhawk Street, A Avenue, and Algonquin Street.

While that is happening, the outside northbound and southbound lanes on North Minnesota Avenue will be intermittently closed from Russell Street to Benson Road to allow construction crews to perform storm drainage repairs. Traffic will always be maintained in the inside driving lanes. This project is anticipated to be completed in about three weeks.

Drivers to and from the Sioux Falls Regional Airport are encouraged to use the traffic detour from Russell Street through Blackhawk Street, A Avenue, and Algonquin Street or come from the north via 60th Street North and Minnesota Avenue.

Taking Time to See: Whittier Neighborhood Park Mural in Sioux Falls

I've lived in Sioux Falls for over a decade, and one of the many things I like about this town is that it's big enough that there is always something new to see.

I'm an eastsider and drive-by Meldrum Park on 6th street several times a week. It's a showcase of the best of Sioux Falls; often full of family gatherings, kids playing, and sports; it's a true neighborhood park.
