Important Street Work Updates for Sioux Falls Drivers
The City of Sioux Falls has announced two significant construction projects affecting major thoroughfares, urging motorists to plan accordingly and exercise caution.
Cleveland Avenue Closure
North Cleveland Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Tenth Street and 12th Street starting at 8:00 a.m. today, October 15, 2025.
The Street Division will be conducting a milling surface project in this area, which involves removing the top layer of asphalt to prepare for resurfacing.
While through traffic will be restricted, local business access will remain available throughout the day. The project is expected to wrap up by 4:00 p.m. this afternoon.
Western Avenue Lane Restriction
Simultaneously, the outside southbound lane of South Western Avenue between 50th Street and the I-229 southbound exit will be closed beginning today.
Crews will be performing essential sidewalk repairs in this section. Weather permitting, this work should be completed within two days.
Safety Reminders
Motorists traveling near either construction zone should reduce their speed and remain alert for workers, equipment, and changing traffic patterns.
The City recommends considering alternate routes to avoid delays, particularly during peak commuting hours.
These improvements are part of the City's ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, reliable infrastructure for residents and visitors.
Drivers can help ensure everyone's safety by staying patient, following posted signage, and giving construction crews adequate space to work.
