Some big road construction projects starting this week will affect traffic in Sioux Falls. Here's what you need to know.

According to the City Of Sioux Falls, beginning Monday, April 13, 2026, lane closures will be in effect on Russell Street at the intersection of North Louise Avenue and North Westport Avenue.

The outside and center lanes in both eastbound and westbound directions will be closed to allow crews to complete concrete curb and gutter repairs in preparation for an upcoming asphalt overlay.

Traffic will be maintained in the inside lanes in both directions, and turning lanes will remain open where possible.

Additionally, the outside lanes on North Louise Avenue and North Westport Avenue at Russell Street will be closed.

Northbound and southbound traffic will continue in the inside lanes, with turning access maintained when feasible.

Drivers should expect changing traffic patterns in the coming weeks as work progresses; however, at least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.

Concrete repairs at this intersection are anticipated to be completed by late June, with overall construction on Russell Street continuing through October 2026.

Separately, beginning Friday, April 17, 2026, traffic on South Cliff Avenue at East 20th Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction for underground utility work.

This phase is expected to be completed by late May. East 20th Street will also be converted to one-way westbound traffic between Cliff Avenue and Ninth Avenue through late summer.

Access to parking ramps will remain open throughout construction.
