S. Falls Man Holding Knife Brings Traffic to a Halt on Louise Ave

A 21-year-old Sioux Falls man holding a knife brought traffic to a standstill on one of the city's busiest streets on Monday.

Dakota News Now is reporting the incident took place on Monday, (July 17) on Louise Avenue and 53rd Street.

When authorities arrived, they found a man brandishing a knife walking down the middle of the street interfering with the flow of traffic in the area.

According to Dakota News Now, police were summoned to the area after a report came in of a man threatening a convenience store clerk with a knife a short time before that.

The report states the suspect entered the store carrying a knife and threatened the clerk on duty at the time. Police told Dakota News Now, the incident wasn't considered to be a robbery because the suspect didn't try to take anything.

The suspect, 21-year-old Troy Dereu of Sioux Falls, was arrested and taken into custody. Dereu was charged with Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction, and Disorderly Conduct.

Dakota News Now reports that during Monday's incident, traffic in the area of 53rd and Louise needed to be blocked off for a brief time because Dereu failed to cooperate with police and remained standing in the middle of the street as authorities attempted to take him into custody.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

What is a Redneck?

The dictionary says that a redneck is someone "...who lives in a small town or in the country, especially in the southern U.S., who typically has a working-class job, and who is seen by others as being uneducated and having opinions and attitudes that are offensive."

Well, a few things. First, South Dakota isn't THAT kind of 'south.' We're to the south of North Dakota, but to the north of 'The South.'

Plus that definition sounds awful mean and serious. I thought we were having fun here.
