Motorists traveling on some of South Dakota's busiest streets should plan for some delays.

Beginning Wednesday, June 24, near the busy intersection of West 41st Street and Louise Avenue.

The closures will occur in various locations along West 41st Street between Westport Avenue and Empire Place, as well as along Louise Avenue between Kentucky Place and 43rd Street.

The temporary traffic impacts are necessary to allow crews to conduct Subsurface Utility Exploration, a process used to locate, identify, and document underground utilities before future construction and infrastructure projects.

Work is scheduled to begin on June 24 and is expected to be completed by the end of the day on July 10, 2026.

While lane closures will be intermittent, drivers should anticipate possible delays and changing traffic patterns throughout the project area during the duration of the work.

Subsurface Utility Exploration plays an important role in improving safety and reducing the risk of utility conflicts during future construction activities.

By accurately mapping underground infrastructure, crews can better plan and execute upcoming projects while minimizing disruptions and unexpected issues.

The City encourages motorists to use caution when traveling through the work zone, remain alert for workers and equipment, and follow all posted traffic control devices.

Drivers who regularly use the 41st Street and Louise Avenue corridor may also want to consider alternate routes when possible to avoid delays.
