Snow Much Fun! Kids Turn Sioux Falls Snowplows Into Art
Join the Fun at Paint the Plow Event
Who says snowplows have to be boring?
Sure, their main job is to push mountains of snow out of the way and help keep Sioux Falls moving when winter comes knocking. But for one special morning, some of the city's biggest winter workhorses will be showing off a much more colorful side!

The City of Sioux Falls is getting ready for its 17th annual Paint the Plow event, and you're invited to see what happens when local kids get a chance to decorate a snowplow!
More than 20 youth groups will have their artistic creations on display from 9 AM to noon on Saturday, October 17, in the south parking lot at Levitt at the Falls, 100 E. Sixth Street. This year's theme is "Snow Much Fun in Sioux Falls," so you can expect plenty of creativity and winter-inspired designs.
Hosted by the city's Public Works Department Street Division, Paint the Plow gives elementary, middle and high school students, preschoolers, after-school programs, day care providers, sports teams, and nonprofit organizations an opportunity to put their artistic talents to work on some seriously oversized canvases.
Vote for Your Favorite Design and Win!
And here's the fun part: You won't just be looking at the artwork. Members of the public can vote for their favorite painted plows during the free event!
The winning designs will earn another chance to shine when they appear in Downtown Sioux Falls Inc.'s Parade of Lights on Friday, November 27.
There's also a pretty exciting possibility for young visitors. Kids who attend the event can enter for a chance to win a snowplow ride to school. How many students get to say they arrived at school in a snowplow? That's one way to make an entrance!

A Showcase of Community Spirit and Winter Readiness
Beyond the colorful designs and the friendly competition, the event offers a reminder that city crews are already preparing for the winter weather ahead.
"Paint the Plow brings creativity and community spirit to an important part of our winter operations," said Dustin Hansen, the city's street operations manager. He added that seeing the designs out on the streets is a fun reminder of the work crews do to keep Sioux Falls moving safely throughout the winter.
So, if you're looking for a free, family-friendly way to spend a Saturday morning, head downtown on October 17 from 9 AM to noon, and check out these larger-than-life works of art. You might even discover your favorite snowplow before it heads out to tackle the first big snowfall!
