New Invasive Bug Found In Minnesota Could Gobble Up Garden

A new foreign plant-eating bug has been spotted in Minnesota. Better check your farm and garden.

Fox 9 News in Minneapolis is reporting that a St. Paul woman discovered an invasive beetle not before known to inhabit Minnesota.

Krista Menzel said she found the bugs crawling on the plants in her backyard garden.

The invasive bugs have been identified as the “Asiatic Garden Beetle” whose home of origin is China.

According to Maine.gov. ”The Asiatic Garden Beetle attacks more than 100 plants, feeding on both foliage and blossoms and sometimes completely destroying a plant.”

The Asiatic Garden Beetle is an invasive insect that feeds on over 100 hosts, including fruit, vegetables, perennials, and annuals.

The Asiatic Garden Beetle feeds on the leaves and flowers of their host plants. Heavy infestations can lead to complete defoliation.
