We've finally turned the corner on spring and that means the season of concerts & music festivals has arrived in South Dakota. Whether you're planning to head west, or east, to the desert or the beach for some of the biggest music festivals make sure you protect yourself when trying to score tickets.

Thrillist talked to the Vice President and Global Head of Visa's fraud services, Michael Jabarra, and got some great tips on protecting yourself and your cash from all the scammers out there.

How To Spot Scams

As always, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Do your research on ticket prices, so you know what average prices are. Avoid peer-to-peer transactions and sellers looking for cash, gift cards, or wire transfers.

What to Do If I Buy Tickets & Find out they're Fakes?

The first thing to do is put a freeze on the debit or credit card that you used. Your bank can then monitor your card for any other fraudulent activity. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission or the Better Business Bureau.

What Else Can You Do to Protect Yourself?

Make sure when you pay online that you double-check the URL and make sure it has an “s” indicating that it is a secure payment site.

Be careful what you share on social media like location and ticket information. Don't put anything out there that makes it easy for fraudsters to steal your money and/or your identity.

5 Things South Dakota Gave the World

South Dakota may not get much respect. We get a blizzard and it's a footnote on the national scene, but if Florida gets a bit chilly it's breaking news. But, maybe it's fine to be forgotten about. We kind of like being left alone on our quiet piece of the plains.

South Dakota has given a lot to the world though. Not just giant mountain carvings and settings for HBO shows, but awesome things that the rest of the world should thank us for.
