A Sioux Empire family is left grieving after someone shot their family dog near Wall Lake on the evening of Friday (November 4.)

The Briney family who has lived in the Wall Lake area for years, now finds themselves in utter shock that someone would be so cruel as to shoot their beloved chocolate lab, Lucy, right on their property when the Brineys were away from home visiting their daughter that evening.

Dakota News Now is reporting that Lucy was outside near the family home playing with another dog when someone inside a pickup truck drove by their home and fired a shot that killed the family dog.

The report states that neighbors in the area reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot, and right after that, they heard a dog yelp. According to Dakota News Now, nearby security camera footage caught a black four-door truck reversing in the video. The whereabouts of that truck and the person who owns it are now of primary interest to authorities investigating the case.

The Briney family is now left looking for answers and is offering a thousand-dollar reward that will continue to increase thanks to donations that are being made from family, friends, and other concerned citizens who want to help them in their search for the suspect responsible for killing Lucy.

As Jon Briney told Dakota News Now, "The person who did it needs to come clean, they need to be held accountable and they need to not do it again.”

Should you have any information that can aid authorities in their search for the four-door black pickup involved in the incident, you're asked to please contact the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department.

And if you would like to open up your heart and make a donation to help increase the size of the reward money, there are two easy ways. You can Venmo @LucyReward or you can make an in-person donation at the First Interstate Bank in Hartford.
