How did they determine this?
They compared and contrasted all 50 states and the District of Columbia across four basic categories: Economic and social well-being, work-life balance, child care, and health.
Within those categories, they considered things like:

- Unemployment rates for dads with kids ages 0 to 17
- Parental leave policies
- Average Length of work days
- Average commute times for men
- Day-care quality
- Quality of school systems
- Men's life expectancy rates
- Share of men in good or better health

Where are the top states for working fathers?
When the numbers were done being crunched, these were the Top 10 Best States for Working Dads:
- Massachusetts
- District of Columbia
- Connecticut
- Rhode Island
- New Jersey
- Minnesota
- Wisconsin
- Illinois
- New Hampshire
- Maryland
Iowa and South Dakota were about in the middle of the pack at 23rd and 25th, respectively.
