70 Years of Christmas Magic in Sioux Falls
I have a distinct and very cozy memory of my first Christmas in Sioux Falls, and it all has to do with Baumgartner's Christmas Trees.
It was December of 1981. I had been in Sioux Falls for 8 months and was still feeling a little lost at Christmastime. I thought that decorating my forlorn-looking apartment might lift my spirits a bit. I had heard some people at work talking about a certain Christmas tree lot that had great trees at reasonable prices.

My mom drove up from Yankton to visit and do a little shopping. I got directions to the Christmas tree lot and off we went to find it. We arrived at a home in northern Sioux Falls. My mom wasn't so sure this was a place to find a tree, but there were plenty of people coming out of the backyard with them.
Sure enough, the backyard was full of Christmas trees, and the family selling them was the Baumgartners.
Putting that tree up with my mom brought me so much joy that just the memory of it still warms my heart.
Fast forward to Christmas 2025, and Baumgartner's is celebrating 70 years in business! Seven decades of helping Sioux Falls families find the perfect centerpiece for their holiday celebrations.
Baumgartners has blossomed into a beloved local institution, located at 1701 W. Madison, and now serves over 1,100 families each Christmas season.
93-year-old Jerry Baumgartner still works alongside his children and grandchildren nearly every day. What makes Baumgartner Family Christmas Trees special is their commitment to quality and personal service.

You'll always have your tree put on the shaker machine to remove loose needles, and then they will carry it to your vehicle and make sure it is secured in or on it.
As the holiday season unfolds, this family business continues creating memories, one Christmas tree at a time, just as they have for the past 70 years.
