Texas Lottery, Powerball Confirm Massive Monday Win
This morning the holiday lights at Moody Gardens on Galveston Island are coated in a fine mist. Much of the upper Texas Coast including High Island, Galveston, Beaumont, and the Greater Houston Metro area is under a Dense Fog Advisory. But just like the red nose on a certain Christmas reindeer, the "bright red beacon of life-changing riches" also known as the Powerball was shining bright last night in the great state of Texas.
If you recall the Christmas classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer you know there is a song performed during the show called "There's Always Tomorrow". It's sung by Clarice, Rudolph's love interest in the holiday special. And for Powerball players in Texas, that sentiment will have to apply.
That's because the big money wins on Monday, according to the Texas Lottery, weren't generated by the multi-state Powerball game. The biggest prizes came from that game we've been telling you are ready to pay and pay big, Lotto Texas with Extra!
Before we get to the nearly $100,000 in winning tickets from Lotto Texas, let's show you the Powerball drawing.
The estimated annuitized top prize in Powerball on Monday night was $58.1 million. The lump sum payout was an estimated $27.1 million. No tickets sold across the game's footprint matched the needed numbers to claim the big money. There was a Match 5 Million winner sold in Colorado.
Texas Powerball players have a pretty good reason to wake up disappointed this morning. Our sources at the Texas Lottery in Austin tell us there were just over 21,000 winning Powerball tickets sold in Texas for last night's drawing but the largest prize any Texas ticket could lay claim to after the ping pong balls dropped was $200.
Here are the numbers we saw roll out of the hopper for Powerball on December 16, 2024.

Verify all tickets at the Official Powerball website or the Official Texas Lottery website. Those are the sites of record when it comes to confirming prizes and winnings.
Now, if you played Lotto Texas with Extra! on Monday night you could be holding one of nine tickets sold in Texas that earned a prize of $11,062 from last night. There were twenty-three other tickets that matched the same number scenario but didn't play "the Extra" so their winnings are posted at $1,062.
The Lotto Texas with Extra! jackpot will finally be less than Powerball when they draw in both games on Wednesday. Powerball is estimated to be $69 million. Lotto Texas with Extra is estimated to be $53.25 million.
But both of those jackpots pale in comparison to Mega Millions. That multi-state lottery game will draw tonight (Tuesday) at 10 pm. The estimated annuitized jackpot is $740 million. And if you recall the last time a huge Mega Millions win happened, it happened in Texas on a ticket sold by the Texas Lottery.
