Iowa Man Charged With Making Threats To His Ex-Wife’s Divorce Lawyer
A central Iowa man is behind bars after being charged with not only harassing an attorney but also making threats against them. The alleged victim was the divorce lawyer for the man's ex-wife.
According to the Perry News, 41-year-old Lukas J. Schroeder was arrested in Runnells, in central Iowa last week. He's been charged with two counts of first-degree harassment against his ex-wife's lawyer, as well as stalking (first offense). What's remarkable is how long authorities allege the harassment took place.
The Perry News says the harassment is alleged to have begun on December 27, 2021, and continued until April 25, 2022, the day the attorney met with a police officer from Urbandale.
Court records indicate Schroeder is accused of sending "several threatening e-mails which threat bodily harm against the victim” and “threatened his death.” One is alleged to have said, “I will beat your ass and find you out in public, I promise you, when our divorce is over." A second said, “Don’t make me put a hit out on you with my friends. You’ll be very sorry.”
The victim's concerns were reportedly heightened because Schroeder was previously in the military and reportedly has "access to several firearms." Court records say the attorney has been the victim of "terrorizing, intimidating, threatening and placing fear in him of bodily harm or death."
Schroeder, above, was booked into the Dallas County Jail in Adel early last week. He's being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for today.
