The City of Sioux Falls has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new City Administration building for Monday January 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM.

Mayor Mike Huether and members of the project steering committee will break ground with the token golden shovels at the event.

The ceremony will begin across the street from the grounds to the east at the Downtown Library, Meeting Room A at 200 North Dakota Avenue.  After several brief remarks at the library, the group will then cross the street to the building location grounds.

Participating dignitaries include Mayor Mike Huether, Councilor Rick Kiley, Director of Central Services Sue Quanbeck Etten, Director of Finance Tracy Turbak, and  Principal Engineer Kurt Peppel,

A statement from the city of Sioux Falls provided further information:

City services will be taken to a whole new level for residents and businesses when the new City Administration Building opens in 2018 with the aim of centralizing departments into a “government corridor” in downtown Sioux Falls. The $21.9 million project budget includes the construction of a three-story building as well as improvements to Van Eps Park and Dakota Avenue.
