Governor Dennis Daugaard Says His $50 Million Road, Bridge Plan Best
Is Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s $50 million road and bridge plan better than a legislative interim committee’s $100 million plan?
The Governor thinks so.
“And their bill would have brought our roads up to snuff than mine will,” the Governor said Tuesday at a news conference. “It will take a little bit longer, but I believe it is still possible to get there with the bill I’m offering. And so, I’m just trying to be a little more frugal, maybe, in this bill."
One part of the Governor’s plan that drew surprise was his two-cent increase per year of the state’s fuel tax. Some legislators on both sides of the aisle who KSOO News spoke to Tuesday were surprised that it didn’t have an apparent end date.
The South Dakota Legislature opened Tuesday with the Governor’s state of the state address to a joint session of the House and Senate and runs through March.
