Three huge points have been gained by the United States as they opened up World Cup play on Monday night.

Clint Dempsey started the action off just 32 seconds into the contest by putting the United States on the scoreboard. It took 82 minutes before Ghana could counter back with a goal from Andre Ayew.

The United States wouldn't settle for a 1-1 draw in their opening contest. John Brooks, who substituted into the game for the US, scored the deciding goal at the 86 minute mark. With the 2-1 victory, the USA gains three points in the group stage.

In 2006 and 2010, Ghana defeated and knocked out the USA from the FIFA World Cup. The US finally took back their win in 2014.

The USA's next contest will be on June 22 as they take on Portugal.
