Germanfest Events Include Music, Food, Wiener dog Races, Sister City Visitors and More
Germanfest is this weekend, Saturday September 9th at Falls Park West in Sioux Falls, and we're going to have such a great time! I'll be one of your emcees for the event. Personally, I can't wait to see the weiner dog races and welcome our German sister city's mayor from Potsdam Germany.
Lord Mayor Jann Jakobs and his wife are part of an entourage of 11 leaders in their community of Potsdam that are here to see and experience Sioux Falls this week. Jakobs will visit Sanford and Avera, campuses and Augustana University. If you don't see him there, make sure to be at Germanfest on Saturday at 4:30 to see him tap the keg. Here's the lineup:
- Live Music 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Weiner Dog Races from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM
- Puppet Show 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM
- Introduction of German visitors

“I am so thrilled to host Lord Mayor Jakobs and other friends from Potsdam. Sioux Falls is rolling out the red carpet for our sister city visitors,” says Mayor Mike Huether.
“I’m so very excited to visit Sioux Falls again. My last trip to Sioux Falls was in March 2003. I’m convinced that Sioux Falls has seen significant development since that time. I’m anxious to see that, of course. Another point is to visit good friends of Potsdam and the sister cities relationship. Together with the members of my delegation and with our friends in Sioux Falls—above all Mayor Mike Huether—we want to strengthen existing relationships and define new fields of cooperation. The relationship between Potsdam and Sioux Falls, honored with the prize for the most active German-American sister-cities partnership in 2016, contributes to good relations between our two countries. Last but not least, I’m excited to visit the Germanfest,” says Mayor Jakobs.
