Former South Dakota State Pitcher Blake Treinen Traded from Washington Nationals to Oakland A’s

It was a season that began with all kinds of promise for former South Dakota State pitcher Blake Treinen.

In his fourth season with the Washington Nationals, Treinen was appointed the team's closer coming out of Spring Training, after finishing 2016 with a 2.28 ERA in 73 appearances.

But things unraveled quickly.

Just eight appearances into 2017, Treinen had allowed ten hits, six walks, and saw his ERA balloon 7.11. He was then returned to his former role:  set-up man.

He made 29 more appearances and did lower his ERA to 5.73, but it wasn't enough for the Nationals, who dealt Treinen to Oakland, Sunday (July 16), as part of a five-player deal.

Treinen is expected to see his first action with the A's during a series with the Tampa Bay Rays, which begins tonight (July 17) in Oakland.

The Osage City, Kansas, native pitched for SDSU in 2010 and 2011. During his senior year, he went 7-3 with an ERA of 3.00.
