Home is almost 5,400 hundred miles away for a young lady who has landed in Dell Rapids to broaden her educational experience.

Dina Dusha is sixteen years old and classified as a junior in high school. As a foreign exchange student, Dusha has always aspired to know more about the world beyond her native country of Ukraine.

“I was always interested in different countries and in different cultures. I’m still really curious to explore the world so I decided to see another country. It was completely (random) as I could be selected to go to any state. I was lucky (enough) to come to South Dakota.”

Already fluent in three languages, Dusha hopes to become a foreign language translator with plans to attend a University in Kiev.

“I want to choose my major as Spanish and my second language as English. I think that the more languages the translator knows the better. I think that after completing Spanish and Polish courses, I will try to learn another language.”

When comparing the winter weather between the two areas, Dusha says the winters in Ukraine are colder than what she experienced in South Dakota.

Sometime this spring, Dusha and her host family plan to further explore the state with a visit to the Black Hills.
