Emotionally drained after a serious injury and a long delay, last night’s Sioux Falls Roosevelt-Rapid City Stevens football game ended with 3:47 left to play.

The outcome was a 40-9 Rough Rider win. However when linebacker Piercen Evans made a tackle and did not rise from the turf, concern for the Roosevelt Junior’s condition became primary.

It took about a half hour for medical staff to secure Evans and take him to the hospital by ambulance. With the point differential making the final moments of the game inconsequential, it was mutually agreed by both coaching staffs that the game be stopped with Roosevelt deemed the winner.

Matt Zimmer of the Argus Leader reports that Evans lost feeling in his fingers and toes after the play, but never fell out of consciousness. Before leaving the field, Evans regained full function to give hope to a harrowing ordeal.

Players and staff from both teams gathered on the field for a prayer led by Stevens senior Desmond Donalson before parting ways for the night. The undefeated Riders will return to Howard Wood Field for a date with Brookings next week while Rapid City Stevens will host Watertown.
