Execution Set for South Dakota State Penitentiary Inmate

Convicted killer Rodney Scott Berget has been scheduled for execution for his role in the killing of South Dakota State Penitentiary Officer Ronald Johnson during a failed escape attempt in April of 2011.

The Attorney General's office says Circuit Judge Bradley Zell of Sioux Falls has set Berget's execution date during the week of May 3 through May 9 of 2015.

The Penitentiary Warden will choose the specific time and date for Berget's execution.

Berget's co-defendant, Eric Robert, was put to death in the fall of 2012.
