I'll come clean right now, I know nothing of Stephen Strange and his metamorphosis into Marvel's alternate dimensions hero Dr. Strange. The mere fact that I have actually heard the term, "Sanctum Santorum" speaks more about my attention to all things peripheral in my life than any purposefully acquired knowledge of this character. It is likely that someone may have used the term in my presence a decade ago in a conversation and I stored it away in my brain for just this moment.

On the other hand, Benedict Cumberbatch is a subject I'm well-versed in! I first discovered him as the new Sherlock Holmes on PBS, where he is a revelation as the updated, quirky, cocaine-addicted, genius hero detective derived from the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories from the 1800s. He then gave an astoundingly nuanced, emotional and multi-dimensional performance in his Oscar-nominated role as Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. As Captain Kirk's complex, angry, uber-human nemesis, Khan, in the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies, he is just fun to watch.

His list of credits and roles grow exponentially as his talent and reputation also do. This November we'll all have the opportunity to see him take on a character from the Marvel Universe and although I have no knowledge of the mythology of Dr. Strange and how he ends up as a caped crime fighter protecting our universe from a variety of existential threats, I plan on finding out!
