To quote the famous movie line in my title, is it possible for a house dog and cat to live together in relative peace?  When I was growing up, we always had dogs.  We had four dogs, Cookie the beagle, Jessie the Poodle, Quantum the Lhasa Apso, and Meka the mut.  We don't know exactly what Meka is, possibly a Min-Pin mix.  All dogs, no cats.

In my single life, I always wanted a small dog, but I never lived in apartments that allowed pets.  When I met my wife five years ago, I discovered that she was a fellow pet lover.  She had an old cat named Riley and a Chihuahua/Jack Russel mix named Gemma.  A few years later, I ended up marrying into a blended pet family, awesome!

Most of the time the cat and dog keep to themselves, they have their own spaces in the house.  The dog is extremely jealous and occasionally she will try to herd the cat away from my wife and I.  Then the Riley has to show Gemma who really runs the house and put the smack down on the dog.  It's interesting to watch Gemma when she is play fighting, she likes to do some kind of spin move like the Karate Kid, but the cat isn't fooled!  Riley will squat down and wiggle her butt before lunging forward.

It's been interesting living with a dog and cat, I thought they would constantly be fighting, but that hasn't been the case at all.  How about you?  Do you live in a blended pet family?  How do they behave?  Let me know, chuck@kikn.com
