Devin Dawson proposed to his girlfriend Leah Sykes — and she said yes! The couple got engaged on Sunday (March 10), in San Francisco, People reports.

Thirty-year-old Dawson proposed to Sykes, 21, at a rooftop bar in downtown San Francisco. Sunday was the two-year anniversary of the couple's first date, Dawson shares, and he says he had plans "for a while now" to propose to her on that day. I wanted to set that day in stone so we could always remember how important March 10 is to us," he adds.

Devin Dawson's "Asking for a Friend" Is Achingly Good

"I grew up around San Francisco and she’s never been, so we made a trip out of it and I got to show her around one of my favorite cities in the world. I think she might have suspected that I would pop the question this weekend when I took her to all my favorite spots ... but I wanted to try to surprise her when she least expected it," Dawson details. "So I waited until late Saturday night, [at midnight] … We went up for a ‘nightcap,’ but when the elevator opened our song was playing, there were candles everywhere and we had the rooftop to ourselves."

Sykes' ring, People reports, is a 1.75-carat round solitaire diamond. Dawson designed it with a local jeweler.

“I never thought I’d be the one to find the one, but it really is crazy how the right things will come into your life at the right time," Dawson adds. "Spending the rest of my life with Leah was a no-brainer for me, and we are both beyond excited and elated to continue our history forever."

Dawson and Sykes are both Belmont University alumni; she is a singer-songwriter as well. They began dating in 2017, as Dawson's career was beginning to rise. The former Taste of Country RISERS star released his debut album, Dark Horse, in January of 2018 and recently concluded his headlining Stray Off Course Tour.

"We understand each other," Dawson shares of dating a fellow artist. "It's nice to have somebody that understands how crazy this life is, the support I need, and how much support she needs from me. And we do that for each other."
