Citizens Receiving Calls From IRS Scammer – Here’s the Numbers to Watch For on Caller ID
The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office has received several complaints reporting that someone is calling and claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service.
Here's how the phony call unfolds:
- First, the caller will tell you that you are delinquent in your taxes and need to send money now or legal action will be taken.
- Second, they will ask for your social security number to verify that it is indeed you that owes the money.
- Third, they will ask for your credit or debit card number to pay it in full - or the legal proceedings will begin immediately.
It's important to note that the IRS will never contact someone in this manner.
The numbers that are showing up on caller ID are: (206) 258-7957, and (509) 228-3506.
