In the 1980's every kid just had to have a Cabbage Patch Kid!

Trouble was, you couldn't get them...or even one.

There was at least one Christmas where every store was sold out. Gone. A long empty shelf where they used to be boxed up, all smiling and happy.

Now? Nothing on that shelf except dust.

I was working in radio in Rapid City back then in the 'old days', and we somehow got our hands on one. We ran a weeks long Christmas contest for that one Cabbage Patch Kid. Just one.

I've been involved in a lot of pretty big and cool radio contests through the decades, but I'm not sure any of them were any bigger than that one.

It seems like every Holiday Season something 'hot' comes along (anyone recall the year of 'Tickle Me Elmo'?) but the 'ol Cabbage Patch Kid may have been the biggest I remember. The demand went on for several years. It finally settled down a bit and you could actually purchase one.

Oh, they're still around, and I'm sure still popular.

But not like those years in the 80's.

By the way, what was the name of yours?
