Gas has been hovering right around $3 a gallon for quite a while. Are we about to get a drop in prices? Maybe.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in South Dakota is $3.16. That's virtually the same as a week ago and six cents higher than one month ago. But some relief on your fuel bill may be in sight soon.

“Crude oil prices saw not only a dramatic drop on the week, but the price per barrel is at the cheapest in three months,” said Marilyn Buskohl, AAA spokesperson in a press release. “If this downward trend continues and less expensive prices are sustained, Americans can expect to see relief at the pump in the near future.”

The average price in Sioux Falls is considerably less. In the state's largest city gas costs $2.99. That's about a penny more than a week ago and is relatively unchanged since this time in July.

Out west prices are much different. The average price in Rapid City is $3.53 per gallon, about half a penny less than a week ago. But that price is over a quarter more than a month ago when the price was just $3.27.

The most expensive fuel in the state is also West River. Meade County has the highest average price at $3.61 per gallon. The cheapest place in the state is Hanson County. Gas there is averaging $2.86 per gallon.

The cheapest gas in Sioux Falls, as is often the case, is at Costco for $2.77 per gallon, as of this writing.
