Anita Cochran Celebrates a Milestone in Her Cancer Journey
After a cancer journey that has lasted more than a year, “What If I Said” hitmaker Anita Cochran is finally celebrating her last chemotherapy treatment. She shared the good news on her Instagram on Wednesday (Sept. 19.)
Two days later, on Friday (Sept. 21), Cochran shared a heartwarming video of the last day of her chemo treatments, from pictures with her medical staff to ringing that iconic bell alongside friends in the music business including Wynonna Judd and Terri Clark.
Cochran initially discovered her cancer herself in August of 2017, when an itch turned into the realization that she had found a lump in her breast. Soon after, Cochran was diagnosed with Stage 2 cancer and began taking a series of chemotherapy drugs that kept her from being out on tour.
In February of 2018, after undergoing a double mastectomy and having one of her lymph nodes removed, the singer revealed that she was cancer free, but would continue her chemo treatments until October.
Looks like she beat that!
Cancer did not keep Cochran from making music. She released a new song and empowering video titled “Fight Like a Girl” in July, inspired by her relentless battle against cancer.
"I wanted it to be about any kind of fight that a woman goes through," she in her blog, Journey to Healing, at her official website. “I didn't want anyone to have to go through what I did, this crash course of 'Oh, my God, learn everything,' Maybe my journey can help people. I feel like that's my purpose now."
"Fight Like a Girl" is available now at Cochran's site, and Cochran has been working on a new EP that she hopes to release during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. To contribute to her medical bills, visit her GoFund Me page.
